“We have a family of people that really like their games. Unfortunately, several are under the age of 12. Needless to say, they are really hard on my discs.

“I am the father of seven children ages 12, 10, 8, 6, 4 and two 2 year olds! They are button pushers, keyboard slammers, and they walk around with CDs on their fingers. For years I’ve had to live with the knowledge that I may never get to play some of the games I have purchased. I find them used as coasters, jammed into the CD-ROM tray, and stacked playfully as a game on the floor. “We have a handicapped daughter who I have had on the computer since she was about eight years old (she is 21 now). The computer has been a learning tool for her and for many years she played, as best she could, DOS games. DOS games were easy to deal with because they stayed on the computer. With the arrival of Windows, CD-ROMs and games that were on CD only, we had a problem.
“Games on CDs were easily scratched by a person with her abilities and we went through a session of ruined CD games because of her inability to take care of them. I took to copying the games to other CDs and keeping the originals. But copies scratch even faster, and I got tired of copying CDs and having to take time every evening to deal with non-working CDs.
“Enter GameDrive. I bought it and installed it. The interface was easy to use. I now have 15 of her CDs mounted on drive letters ‘E’ through ‘S’ and icons on the screen for each game. If I want to change out a game, I simply eject it from a virtual drive and load the new one, and put the icon on the screen. No more ruined CDs! They are not even in her room and they work every time so that I do not have to make her games work each night. We love her but fixing scratched CDs was getting old fast. “The program is simple. You insert the play disc into the CD-ROM drive, run GameDrive, and then use the friendly interface to create a VCD image of the disc. Presto! The key disc is now on your hard drive. You’ll enjoy the increased speed your games run at, since hard drives offer much faster seek and access times compared to optical drives. GameDrive lets you store up to 23 virtual game-disc images, and you can run them simultaneously, although I don’t know anyone capable of (or who desires) playing both Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 at the same time.
